flame pillar
Another view of the pillar that appeared over Antwerp on December 20, 2009. This photo, taken from Merksem, 18.7 km (11.6 miles) southeast of the combustion flame that caused the reflection, was taken at 01:02:29 local time (according to the EXIF data of the image). Calculations indicated that the pillar appeared in a 2.9 km or 9,488 feet high ice-crystal cloud.

Compare to the pillar in OP-PH-21 which shows an identical i shape.

Camera: Canon EOS300D; exposure time: 6 sec.; aperture: 8.0; ISO setting: 1600; focal length: 38 mm.
